Record a workflow in Chrome and turn it into an editable, step-by-step guide.

Tracepaper has no server and no account. Your guides and screenshots stay in your own browser until you export them yourself as PDF, Word, Markdown, HTML, or a file in your own Google Drive.

We cannot see your guides. Not because we promise not to look — because there is no copy anywhere we could look at.

Why that matters

Tracepaper supports FERPA and HIPAA compliance because we never receive your data. Since no student records or health information ever reach us, there is no vendor agreement to sign, no Business Associate Agreement needed, and nothing about us for your privacy office to review.

Tracepaper is not “certified” and is not “HIPAA compliant” — those words describe organizations and programs, not tools. How you handle what you record is still your responsibility.

What it does

• Records the clicks in a workflow and writes each one as a sentence: Click "Save".
• Photographs each step, and destroys the contents of every text field before the picture is written to disk. There is no original underneath to recover.
• Lets you mark areas to hide before recording, so those pixels are never saved.
• Never reads what you type. Password fields are never photographed and never become a step.
• Asks permission for one website at a time, by name, and hands that permission back when the recording ends.

Status

Tracepaper is in development and is not yet available in the Chrome Web Store. These pages describe how it works today and will be kept accurate as it changes.
